The Custard Factory

All over the UK there are sensational converted buildings, some transforming from churches to pubs. One site that’s changed its functionality stands out, and that is the Custard Factory in Birmingham, which was built as a custard factory and is today a very popular arts and media production centre. The Bird’s Custard factory was built a hundred years ago and has since been redeveloped, to host artistic, media and entertainment venues, as well as shops and restaurants. The Custard Factory is located in the Digbeth quarters, an industrial district of Birmingham. In addition to that, a number of charities have offices there as well.

A vibrant part of the Custard Factory, the Medicine Bar is one of the most best known nightclubs in the city, famous for its techno, funk and acid jazz events, and is always packed with party goers. Punch Records is a company that presently offers lessons in an array of artistic fields, many that derive from music, such as lyrics, rhythm and music production; but also photography, dancing and poetry. Also located there is Fused Magazine, covering music, fashion, design and art in general, whilst Tindal Street Press publishes modern fiction, primarily concentrating on local writers, as the company is based there.  Other venues are occupied by the local branches of the Press Association, an international news agency and the National Trust, that focuses its efforts on preserving England’s natural landscape and heritage. Two of the charities are the Terrence Higgings Trust, a British charity which represents, through it’s campaigning endeavors, a strong part of the fight against HIV and Prince’s Trust, a charity established by Prince Charles, intending to come to the aid of young people.

The Custard Factory is definitely one of  the busiest venues in Birmingham, with a large variety of occupiers, and it’s one that draws a plethora  of people with very different interests.
